How We Rank
Rankings are driven by community sentiment from r/homesecurity, r/homeassistant, r/smarthome, and Amazon verified reviews. We weight subscription costs, local storage options, and privacy practices heavily because those are the issues the community cares about most.

#1: Wyze Cam v3 (78/100)
The budget champion. Color night vision via the Starlight sensor, IP65 weather resistance, and a price that makes multi-camera setups affordable. RTSP firmware available for local streaming.
Why it’s ranked here: Unbeatable value, but cloud dependency and privacy concerns cost it points.
#2: eufy Indoor Cam 2K (73/100)
Solid indoor camera with local storage and no subscription. 2K resolution provides sharp detail, and HomeKit support adds Apple ecosystem integration.
#3: Aqara Camera Hub G3 (70/100)
Unique dual-purpose device: a 2K camera that also functions as a Zigbee hub. Gesture recognition and HomeKit Secure Video support make it a compelling option for Apple/Zigbee households.
Our Recommendation
The Wyze Cam v3 is the best value for monitoring, and its IP65 rating covers sheltered outdoor spots. eufy wins for Apple HomeKit users wanting local storage.

Ring Indoor Cam 2K
Protocol: Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz)
Buy on Amazon
A plug-in indoor camera with 2K video, a 115-degree horizontal field of view, night vision and two-way talk. A removable privacy cover ships in the box; the microphone stays on under the cover unless you turn it off in the Ring app. Ring cameras have no local storage: live view and motion alerts work without a plan, but re-watching recorded video and the smarter detection features need a Ring Protect plan (from $4.99 a month per device). Note that most published reviews we found cover the older 1080p Indoor Cam (2nd gen), not this model.
Aqara Camera Hub G350
Protocol: Wi-Fi 6, Zigbee, Thread, Bluetooth (Matter)
Buy on Amazon
A pan-tilt indoor camera with a 4K wide lens and a 2.5K telephoto lens (up to 9x hybrid zoom), 360-degree rotation and auto-tracking of people and pets. It is also an Aqara Zigbee hub (Aqara devices only, up to 80 sub-devices), a Matter controller and a Matter bridge, and is billed as supporting Matter 1.5 cameras. Its Thread border router is version 1.3.0, which one reviewer counted as a drawback. Storage is a microSD card up to 512 GB or a NAS, and it offers three RTSP streams up to 2160p. HomeKit Secure Video is supported, limited to 1080p and requiring iCloud+. It also works with Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings.
